Magic The Gathering, or (MTG) as it is also known as, is a trading card game. Richard Garfield created (MTG) and it was first published by Wizards Of The Coast in 1993. Now over twenty years old Magic continues to thrive enjoying 12+ million players world wide. World Wide Tournaments that draw massive crowds and they are shown via the Internet and was even shown on ESPN2.
Magic can be played by two people or more with printed cards or by virtual decks from third party support. The Internet form of magic is not as common as the physical card playing game. Although Magic is known to have more complex rules than many other card games it can be learned with little difficulty. The age of 13 is commonly posted on most if not all MTG products for a age that is appropriate to start playing. Male & Female players enjoy the challenge of this game with a prize support for most establishments offering MTG products.
Each game represents a battle between the two players and the deck’s that they are playing. A strong wizard, or planes walker that it is also called casts spells, artifacts, and creatures depicted on individual Magic cards to defeat their opponents. Although the concept of the game was drawn from Dungeons & Dragons, MTG bears little similarity to it. While having substantially more cards and more complex rules than many other card games MTG has been tested with its long duration and massive popularity, there is little doubt that MTG will be around a long time to come.
Magic The Gathering has somewhat of a unique nickname, “cardboard crack” for the reason of some people who are very competitive can spend a lot of money on just one deck. With that being said, in a article that was published in 2004 in USA Today, it was suggested that playing Magic might help improve the social and mental skills of some of the players. The article interviewed players’ parents who believe that the game, similar to sports, teaches children how to more gracefully win and lose. Magic also contains a great amount of strategy and vocabulary that children may not be exposed to on a regular basis. Parents also claimed that playing Magic helped keep their children out of trouble, such as using illegal drugs or joining criminal gangs. Ending in 2007 it was possible for some of the best players to play for small scholarships.
In MTG there are five colors, White, Blue, Black, Red & Green. As the game evolved, multicolor cards were introduced in the Legends Set and typically use a gold frame to distinguish them from mono-color cards. Colorless cards are also involved in Magic. These cards most often appear in what is called Lands and Artifacts. Unlike the five colors, Colorless cards do not have a specific personality or style of play.
